Releasing at Great Falls

I decided to take a trip to the Great Falls of the Potomac River, on the Maryland side.  It is about 15 miles west of Washington, DC.  As soon as I pulled into the parking lot, I sensed snake energy.

I walked along the canal, heading to the trails that lead you to the Great Falls. The trail is a raised boardwalk that allows you to enjoy nature while keeping the disturbance to a minimum.  I reached the overview platform in time to see four kayakers navigate the rushing waters of the rapids.  After watching the kayakers, connecting with the water and the sun, and envying a few birds flying over the falls, I made my way back along the boardwalk.  I wanted to venture off the trails, but everywhere you turned the signs read “stay on the trail, stay on the platform.”

Once I reached an area that was not forbidden, I walked into the woods.  I found a spot maybe one hundred feet from the main trail, where I could see the water and I could see others; however, I could not be seen.  I stood in silence for a few moments to connect to the song of the rushing water.

When I opened my eyes, I noticed a butterfly a few feet away from me.  She is yellow and black.  I sensed that she is calling me to her, or maybe that specific place near the rocks.  I walked to the rocks, and found a seat among the rocks.  Once I sat down, I noticed she was no longer around.

I got as comfortable as I could on my rock-seat.  It was just a few moments ago, before finding my hideaway that I was on the platform over a section of the Great Falls.  I stood with my back facing upriver.  I imagined that the waters of the Potomac River rushing over the Great Falls were flowing through my spirit.  I imagined releasing into the waters stuff (thoughts, beliefs, habits, feelings, ways of being, etc) that I was ready to release.
Releasing.  Feeling the flow of the water.  Releasing.  Listening to the song of the rapids.  Thank you stuff for serving as you did.  Releasing.  It is time to let go.  Releasing.  Clearing out the stuff from the storage units.   Releasing.   Breathing.  Releasing.  Letting it all go.  Understanding that the waters of the river flow to its source, returning to the ocean.  Releasing.   Allowing the waters to carry the stuff away.  Releasing.  Knowing that the universe will transform the stuff back into pure energy.  Releasing.  Breathing.  Releasing.
I sat among the rocks and trees (earth), with music of the flowing river (water), the gentle, light breeze (air), and the sun, blazing bright from above (fire).  Me in nature.  Me with God.  The elements balanced, nature replenished, God restored, and I received.

I walked back to the car and headed home.  Yes, I stilled sensed the presence of snake energy, the energy of change, transformation and transmutation.

When I pulled into the driveway at home, I saw a yellow and black butterfly, yellow and black.  She was on the side of the house, wings spread wide, laying flat.  I wondered if she flew here, ahead of me.  I smiled to myself.
